Austin Statesman's Review
Owner Ronald Cheng has been experimenting with new dishes, incorporating local seasonal produce when possible. Some "chef's specialties" include Hunan duck rolls, rabbit in orange sauce and "two little lambs" (one sweet, the other spicy). Chinatown's atmosphere is upscale, with red and black walls, red lacquered chairs and tables covered in white linen. ** |

Austin Chronicle's Review
Ronald Cheng's devoted diners have followed him around town for years (the Bee Cave bunch still mourns the move). Chef's Specials are where Chinatown really shines -- try the Thai Pepper-Basil Shrimp, the crunchy Rabbit in Orange Sauce, Crispy Whole Fish in Red Chili Sauce, or the Peppercorn Chicken for proof. No meal is complete without a side of Dry-Cooked String Beans With Pork, and the Shrimp With Lemongrass Soup. No oily, cloyingly thick sauces here!

More » Amazing dimsum. The dimsum on the weekends is definitely superb. If you are a foodie and haven t tried this, you are missing out! The freshness, quality and variety defies description. I don t mind paying for food this good. It definitely is an aphrodisiac to the taste buds. When you have had the best, it kind of ruins it for other dim sum places. It can be a little noisy during the high peak times on the weekend. Sunday is packed. Try Saturday. |

People tend to be polarized about Chinese food. I've tried over 30 places in Austin, and Chinatown is definitely my favorite. This place is near my office and I eat there at least once a week -- their sushi and chinese food are consistently VERY good. Ask for Jimmy for your waitperson; he is always very attentive. The bar is very well-stocked; someone there is a wine-master. The place is romantic (wouldn't bring the kids) or a good place for a business dinner. I've met the owner Cheng a couple of times and he seemed genuinely appreciative of our business. Great place. |

The Cilantro Shrimp is very delightful. The Honey Pepper Beef is amazing! And the list goes on and on at this restaurant. For a nice dinner out for two or ten, this is the place to go. |

Wonderful food, great service. This is a great "date" destination because of the atmosphere; also good for lunchtime appointments. The fried or steamed vegetable dumplings are a great way to start off, and thye have the best hot and sour soup I've ever tasted. Asthetics are important also--everything is presented beautifully and tastes as great as it looks. |

On the way to dinner last night, my husband complained about how it's impossible to get a perfect meal. Well, Chinatown proved him wrong! Our food was excellent--we had a sushi appetizer (from Musashino, downstairs)--always incredibly fresh and delicious! We shared 2 Chinese dishes, 2 Little Lambs and Spicy Scallops, which were out of this world. The service was extraordinary--our server, Freddy, was the friendliest, most attentive waiter we've had anywhere in years! We were also celebrating our anniversary and the atmosphere was perfect--upscale, nice decor. All in all, a perfect meal! |

Best chinese food in Texas. Service is spotty, but pretty good. No, we're not connected to the owner. We truly LOVE the food. It is simply the tastiest you'll find anywhere. |
